Scabiosa, or pincushion flower, adds the perfect supporting flower in a bouquet. Typically known for its blue color, it also offers one of the deepest burgundy colors and even antique cream coloring. I prefer the Fama series, with their tight centers and ruffly outer petals and also love Starflower. Starflower, or Scabiosa stellata, has a nondescript, pale blue flower. But once the flower forms a seed pod, that is where the magic happens. Its geometric, unique head (full of seeds that remind me of a badminton shuttlecock) makes a fantastic whimsical addition to bouquets.
